The Naked Masquerade - work in progress

The Naked Masquerade: part 2

Gilding and some extreme stopping out…. I have begun The Naked Masquerade (which may not be its final title) in earnest. I recall saying last time when I showed you the sketch that I had not quite decided how I was going to approach it – whether as a painting or an etching. Well the next day common sense sunk in and the bit of my brain that is in charge of delivering the message ‘You Have Got To Be Joking!’ as regards particularly stupid ideas, pointed out the sheer horror of undertaking All Of That as an etching. It…

Spring Farm Arts Easter 2013 flier front

Spring Farm Arts is open for Easter

Apparently it’s spring, so it must be time for our Easter open weekend at Spring Farm Arts. I must admit that when I put this leaflet together six weeks or so ago I did expect it to rain all weekend, because it does that. I didn’t expect sub-zero temperatures and snow… However, if you’re in Somerset and can brave the elements, we would all be delighted to see you! Opening times: Friday 29th March to Monday 1st April, from 11am to 5pm. Venue: Spring Farm Arts, Spring Farm (formerly Moorlynch Vineyard), Spring Lane, Moorlinch, Bridgwater, Somerset, TA7 9DD, UK. I…

Life Drawings at Pawlett 16.3.13

What with posting about my pet plagiarist, I didn’t have time to post these drawings last weekend, but I did finally get to another Life Drawing session. These were mostly not the length of poses that I like best – the 4 short 5-minute poses are the sort of thing I like, but then the same seated pose for… er…  what seemed like a very long time, meant I had to move round and draw from different angles, which explains the two pairs of near-identical poses. But still, it did for once mean I put some effort into actually drawing…

Hydrophobia: Medusa on the beach - etching print

Hydrophobia… printed

And the final image for next year’s calendar is complete! I think it came out ok in the end despite misgivings that I had thrown too many techniques at this particular plate: The snakes are more like cartoon snakes in this one than in any of the others, but it seemed appropriate! So that’s the calendar for 2014 – A Medusa For All Seasons. If you want to look back at the work in progress this link should show you all the calendar posts: https://nancyfarmer.wordpress.com/tag/calendar-2014/ There will of course be much more work to do before this becomes a calendar,…

sketch for a naked masquerade scene, in pencil

The Naked Masquerade

On the internet, everyone can see your bits! This blog has lately been so much about a certain Ms Wendy Marani (plagiarist extraordinaire), that, showing you any new artwork, I feel like saying: and  now for something completely different! Except there is a tie-in: on the internet everyone can see your bits! Of course the ‘bits’ in question may not be what I know you are now thinking about: you can’t see those in this sketch either. But it is worth remembering that, whatever you display, people are going to see it if you put it out there! And so,…

painting by Don Hall: Miami Vice

Don Hall’s Secret Shame!

Marital Discord or Secret Collusion? we peer at the locked door of 671 Washington Ave, South Beach, to find out! Editor’s note: there are several artists called Don Hall, so please do not mistake them! The Don Hall in question is the one married to plagiarist Wendy Marani. So far as we can tell the others are more talented and may even have talented wives. The following story is TRUE, the quotes are all real, though the style may have been picked for comedic effect. We give you the low down on the low brow art world, with none of that…

Charlie in Spelling Animals

The Spelling Animals vi

Another birthday, another little troupe of Spelling Animals… Did this last Friday, just before the whole Wendy Marani incident… fortunate really as I have been kind of short on time this week, answering everyone’s most warmly appreciated comments and investigations 🙂 [Note to self: next week do more art].

Hydrophobia - Medusa at the Beach - aluminium plate before printing

Hydrophobia: the last Medusa

Don’t worry, this is not the last Medusa, merely the last in the series that will complete my 2014 calendar. That said, perhaps I could ask the delectable Wendy Marani to carry on the series for me, or do you think, perhaps, she might run out of ideas if I stopped too? So, back to real art, finally! The last of my calendar paintings to be completed is actually a summer month. It was going to be June, but in view of the beach, and not wanting too many reclining nudes one after another, I may make Snakes in the…

'Medusa in England' - a painting as yet not plagiarised by Wendy Marani Hall

The Artist, the Plagiarist, and the Medusa Paintings: part 3

Letters, Lies, and the Noble Game of Guestbook-Baiting Being the continuation of a tale of woe and wrongness as detailed in parts one and two… Dear friends, news was promised… and so here is news, though of a scant quantity: The Artist was greatly wroth not only that the Evil Plagiarist had copied (with most lamentable skill) three of her best Medusa Paintings and claimed them as her own ideas, but that the same person also proposed on YeFacebooke to paint a fourth. And so the Artist bethought her of a plan most Cunning and most Simple. To this end…

Medusa and the Hairdryer - painting in gouache by Nancy Farmer

The Artist, the Plagiarist, and the Medusa Paintings: part 2

Upping the Ante …continued from https://nancyfarmer.wordpress.com/2013/03/08/the-artist-the-plagiarist-and-the-medusa-paintings/ Now the Artist, pausing before revealing to the Evil Plagiarist what she had done, did browse once more the Evil Plagiarist’s utterances upon YeFacebooke. (The Artist and her friends were, I did mention, right Sneaky, and had some time past tracked down the Evil Plagiarist upon YeFacebooke and had verily been keeping a Beady Eye upon her). And it should be said that the three paintings that the Evil Plagiarist had painted, were done in the year of 2011 AD (and some more mice added upon a time perhaps in 2012 AD). And since…
