A quick update: I have written and sent the blurb for my solo exibition at Ilminster in July, it is now definitely called ‘A Westcountry Bestiary’. So I need to steam ahead a bit and paint a few more creatures, beasties and denizens of the Westcountry. This evening I am drawing Ditch Dragons. They are a thing, honest. Medusa is finished, and when I have time to stitch the scans together I shall post her but for the meantime, it’s dragons in the undergrowth…

Clevedon Pier, scribbles and hats
I swim at Clevedon, in the Marine Lake and in what we like to call the sea, though you may call it the Bristol Channel if you wish, and this is a little project that came out of a discussion between a few people that I swim with. Someone said we could get hats printed with our name on… in the event that we decided on a name. I suggested that they also needed a picture of the very fine Victorian Pier at Clevedon on them and offered to draw it. Everyone liked the idea of the pier and nobody…
A small auction of paintings
First, apologies to any who are following this blog by email, I inadvertently sent out an extremely dull list of previous exhibitions to you all – I thought there was a way I could sneak it onto the site without everyone getting an email, I was wrong! However, this next bit you might be interested in: Auction of paintings: It is a fact that I have TOO MANY paintings! And since some of these are no longer in frames, they never get seen any more, they just languish in plan-chest purgatory. So I am having a little auction of four…
The return of Medusa
In case you thought I only did drawings of swimmers nowadays, here is a little work in progress. I have an exhibition booked at Ilminster Arts Centre in July and I need to get on with quite a lot of new work, of the kind of ‘fantasy-satire’ that people expect to see there (and indeed what I expected to exhibit there when I booked it a couple of years ago). The swimming drawings probably will also feature, but I have a working title for the exhibition which is ‘A Westcountry Bestiary‘ and a nice little handful of new paintings along…
The Cumbria Flood Appeal drawing
Back at the end of last year Cumbria was suddenly rather underwater. I live in Somerset, where we know a bit about flooding, but this is also a place where I have spent a lot of time over the years. I know people there and I know some of the roads and landmarks that got washed away, so I decided I would hold a little charity auction in aid of the flood appeal fund. The winner of the auction would get a drawing of a subject of their choosing that I would create from photographs and imagination – but I…
Have calendar, will swim.
At the end of last year I was selling calendars for 2016, illustrated with my swimming drawings, and posting them off in the hope, of course, that people would enjoy them, but I hadn’t actually expected to see any of them again. But look what I saw yesterday – three pages of January filled in as diaries of people’s swims. I thought this was so fabulous I wanted to share the photos. Swimming calendars, full of swimming! There are other exercises in there, too, and the pink squares on one of them denotes the only days on which the calendar…
