‘Press On’ at The Courthouse Gallery, 14th May – 25th June 2016

I have just dropped off some etchings at the rather fine Courthouse Gallery in Somerton, where I am taking part in an exhibition with the group of artists that I used to work alongside at Dove Studios. I don’t make etchings currently… I’m not saying I never will again, but I don’t have time at the moment, so now is your chance to see some previous works, alongside a lovely selection from 5 other talented artists.

Come and meet the artists on Friday 13th May 5 – 7pm, everyone welcome.

Opening times for the rest of the exhibition: Tuesday – Saturday 10am – 5pm

The Courthouse Gallery, Market, Place, Somerton, TA11 7LX.

A few photos of the exhibition going up, and a proper cell door, just to prove it is the old courthouse of Somerton!

And the official blurb, wot I wrote…..

Press On: An exhibition of printmaking from artists at Dove Studios

Colin Threadgall, Andrea Clark, Lucy Ershine, Terry Bugden, Ann Fagan, Nancy Farmer

The six artists of this exhibition all either learnt, or re-learnt, the art and craft of etching at Dove Studios. ‘Re-learnt’ because, since 2007 printing plates have been aluminium, solvents and acids have been banished, the process is less toxic and the results in many ways influenced by the change in materials. There has been some pioneering, there have been discoveries, there has been work that looks like traditional etching and there has been work that with traditional materials simply would not have worked. Colin, Andrea, Lucy, Terry, Ann & Nancy have created these images alongside each other for several years, their work distinct and individual, but not without the occasional cross-pollination of ideas and techniques.

From fauna & flora, from the Somerset landscape, from ideas & imagination, from the physical character of etching itself, have subjects been drawn. United by a process, this exhibition promises both diversity and cohesion.

Dove Studios continues to be a creative hub providing both facilities for experienced printmakers and instruction for those new to the discipline, under the tutelage of Bron Bradshaw. Contact Bron for information on courses: bronbradshaw@yahoo.com
