Paper Angels on the wing

I have finished the Paper Angels, so I just wanted to show you a few photographs of the results. I have books of them for sale to colour in and cut out, but I also coloured a set myself and had them printed on pearlescent sparkly thin card, and they look a little splendid in the sunlight! Both sorts – coloured and uncoloured – are available to buy in my Etsy shop, but please note they aren’t actually weatherproof and you can’t keep them outside! For more about the books, see this page on my site:

A colour-in Christmas Devil

Paper ‘Angel’ no.2

Ok, this fellow is… a bit of a little devil, but in the interests of equality one should not forget devils at Christmas. My plan is to have a group – I think it will be 7 – as a collection compiled in a booklet that you can deconstruct, colour in and make up. Technically the booklet aspect is completely unnecessary, EXCEPT that I feel it will make a nice presentation and a nice gift, better than a handful of printed sheets. So, that’s the plan, more to come soon. I’m now working on angel number 3 and yes, another…

Drypoint Print: The Tor at Night

The beginning of 2015…

Time and tide wait for no man… nor for a busy woman who has yet to start on next year’s calendar. So here we are, I have begun the 2015 calendar. In fact I have rather more than begun it, I have been working on it since the start of the year and I have a sketch for every month now, and two images printed, but all in good time: the blog has suffered while I have been busy and I have some catching up to do. Next year’s calendar will be “Twelve Views of the Tor”… Glastonbury Tor of…

'Demon Baubles' - drypoint and watercolour

Demon Baubles! (a brief christmas message…)

Predictably, it is the afternoon of Christmas Eve and we are still cleaning the house, and I still have some baubles to hang, and we have about 40 people arriving in about 3 hours for mulled wine… But I have actually wrapped up all my Christmas presents, which counts as seriously efficient for me… So, just time to wish you all a Very Merry: Christmas/ Atheist Piss-Up/ Late Winter Solstice/ Other Religious Festival of your Choice/ Hedonistic Party/ Bar Humbug… (please select as appropriate) Nancy xxx

Angelic Champagne 3 - drypoint coaster

Good and Evil, in artistic imbalance

In fact, I am with William Blake on this one (if I had to pretend NOT to be an atheist for a moment) – Devils should not be seen as ‘evil’, they are the appropriate balancing creative and chaotic force, to counteract the order personified by God and the angels. But believe what you will: I don’t, I simply like drawing them. So here, finished, are all the Angel and Demon coasters that you have seen glimpses of for the past few weeks. They are unfairly balanced: 6 devils to 4 angels, and yes, the devils are proving more popular….

Set Fire to my Art: part 2

I have finally finished enough candles to supply 3 exhibitions, and have time (barely) to photograph some of them. Sadly no time yet to tell you how it’s done… later… All candles decorated with original drawings, no prints. Angels and Demons is the general theme, it being near to Christmas, though personally I find such characters have a year-round appeal 🙂

drinking devil three

Encountering devils… again.

These are the second instalment in my collection of the drypoint demons (with wine), destined to become a nice group of coasters featuring original artwork. The first pair, if you missed them, appeared in this post: This was to be a group of six but, since the season for such things is fast approaching, I may  stick at a gourp of four demons and a second group of four angels. Angels are for Christmas; demons, of course, are timeless 😉

Dancing Demons Candle

Set fire to my art!

I am putting original drawings onto candles! They are, as you will guess, traced from a basic template to some extent, but only very loosely and each one is different. To do originals from scratch each time would take far too long for something I am suggesting people to set fire to, but I think they are unique enough to merit the title ‘art’. This is a taster as the blog looks hungry: more detail when I have time. If you are good, I may even tell you how I did it….
