Clevedon Pier, scribbles and hats

I swim at Clevedon, in the Marine Lake and in what we like to call the sea, though you may call it the Bristol Channel if you wish, and this is a little project that came out of a discussion between a few people that I swim with. Someone said we could get hats printed with our name on… in the event that we decided on a name. I suggested that they also needed a picture of the very fine Victorian Pier at Clevedon on them and offered to draw it. Everyone liked the idea of the pier and nobody…

Canvas print with me for scale

Is this picture real?

The digital sketches of my Cat-of-the-Day blog mostly only exist in electronic form – I have printed cards, I have a couple of collections featuring in calendars for next year and I have printed and framed a few, but on the whole I’ve never seen them other than on a screen. So I am rather excited about this huge print that I have just had delivered. For a drawing for which I have no ‘original’ to sell, since it is all created on a digital screen, this elevates the picture to – not an original – but to a rather…

Clevedon Pier and the 'Strange Fish' exhibition poster

Strange Fish at Clevedon Pier 2

The exhibition is up! See my previous post if you want to read the start of that, and my exhibitions page for the venue details and so on. I would have photographed the inside of the gallery, but the light was fading, and it’s never easy to get stunning photos of an empty gallery. So here is the head of the pier itself, with one of my posters. Fear not: for you hydrophobes and sufferers from vertigo, my exhibition is at the dry end, on solid ground…. …and some circling seagulls: Right, that’s one exhibition up and running, one more…

Strange Fish at Clevedon pier - exhibition poster

Strange Fish at Clevedon Pier

Funny, you wait all year for an exhibition and then three come along at once. On Saturday I took down the exhibition at Ilminster and in only a week or so I will be re-hanging everything back in Moorlinch ready for Somerset Arts Weeks… and then yesterday The Tolhouse Gallery, Clevedon Pier, contacted me: they’ve had a cancellation, would I be interested in wall space in their gallery for three weeks starting in the middle of next week. Well of course that would clash completely with Somerset Arts Weeks… so I said I’d be delighted and I would take the…

Clevedon Mermaids

Clevedon Mermaids at the Pier

Back in about April of this year, when the summer could not even have been said to be appearing on the horizon, I completed a series of three small paintings that I wanted to show you. However, as they were for a competition, it occurred to me that there might be a rule about entries being judged anonymously, and so posting them on a blog saying “here’s my competition entries for the Deckchairs at Clevedon Pier” could be seen to be foolhardy. So now, here is a belated “Ta Da!” I don’t often go in for competitions that require a…
