The Rat Race (spelt in Rats, of course!)

This is almost certainly the last piece that I have had time to complete  that will get into my Ilminster exhibition next month – finished a couple of weeks ago, but since then it’s been printing, framing, admin etc. One more Spelling Animals picture I managed to sneak in – I had fun with this. Usually when people ask me for rat spelling animals I imagine they want the rats to look quite nice… these rats on the other hand, they aren’t very nice at all, especially the rats at the top of the pile…. Prints available from the Spelling…

Bob the Log

An entertaining Spelling Animals picture I was asked for a couple of weeks ago: Bob the Log, in whippets and logs. Bob has a sideline selling logs. This is the sketch for it, which I scanned in and ‘typeset’ the whippets and logs. I am annoyed to discover that I never photographed the finished piece, so I can’t show it to you! And here are Clare’s rats. If you would like a Spelling Animal picture for yourself or someone special, please contact me, or take a look at the Spelling Animals section in my Etsy shop

Skanky Rats

Skanky Rats!

Now, I quite like rats, though as the owner of a keen ginger hunter I do not often see whole ones, and formerly my ‘names in rats’ have been rather sweet, mischievous creatures. But I had a request for a name if I could make the rats “a bit more skanky”… and I was happy to oblige, of course:

Spelling Rats

Rats, sweet rats…

Meanwhile, in my occasional capacity as custodian of some highly trained Spelling animals: Rats seem to be the in thing lately. I did a name in rats for a customer and she came back instantly with a request for this picture too. Meanwhile I am doing another name in rats with the special request that they be ‘more skanky’ … yep, I can also do Skanky Rats. These, however, are not those rats 🙂

The Spelling Animals do 'Charlie'

Charlie’s Rats

Another niece, another birthday… As I have said before, as far as the Spelling Animals are concerned this is the Year of the Non-specific Rodent Thing. But that only applies to the nieces and nephews, who all get a go at the same animal or there are bound to be arguments. Suddenly I have been asked for a few of these on a commission basis: over the last fortnight I have also encountered spelling cats, sea creatures and winged lizards. There seems to be a modest demand, so I have put up a listing on Etsy: https://www.etsy.com/uk/listing/181733790/ I will be interested…

Rodent Spelling Animals in watercolour and pencil

The Year of the Non-specific Rodent Thing

My first post of the year, but in Spelling Animals we are still in last year. Like the Chinese New Year, the changeover doesn’t happen for some time… So, being as this is the year of the Non-specific Rodent Creature, here is Georgia’s card, done in a flurry of ultra-busy some time before Christmas and never posted on the blog.
