It is true that this is in the way of a piece of blatant marketing, but what the hell, I spend a lot of time on this blog telling people how to paint as well, and so on… So I wanted to draw your attention to the fact that I have actually gone and ordered a little range of rather nice, rather large greetings cards. ‘So, where do you get your inspiration from?’ …you’d be amazed how many times I have been asked that question this week:  it’s that perennial undertaking which we round here call Somerset Arts Weeks. Now, I’m not usually one to complain, but I would like it known that it is hard work, it is time-consuming, it does cost money, and it does involve talking to the general public for about a fortnight in the eager hope that they may be inspired to make a purchase. Talent is not enough…

It’s not enough, simply to have artistic talent. Oh, it may be enough for the painting of beautiful pictures, but artists have to eat, too. One of the hardest parts of making a living out of art is sometimes not the making of the actual artworks, it’s getting people in through the door. And selling them artwork, of course, but getting them through the door is the first task. I exhibit with a small group of artists we call ‘Spring Farm Arts‘, after our venue.
